There’s no doubt that you have heard the lines “find your passion” or “everyone has a purpose in life” over and over again. However, what exactly do they mean? Passion does not merely refer to the activities you enjoy doing (there may be many things that you enjoy doing and are already doing, but you may not be passionate about doing them); passion is whatever you derive absolute joy from, and for which you are willing to sacrifice your time and effort.
When you are passionate about something, you are eager to put in more work without feeling burdened. Your commitment to it brings you a sense of joy and contentment. Purpose is what brings meaning to your life; it is the why that drives you.
Finding your passion is essential to living a happy and fulfilling life. Sadly, most people only fantasize about living a passionate life without getting to actualize it. They get comfortable in what is familiar and less risky, without knowing that they possess the power to change the course of their lives into a more rewarding journey. You probably dream of finding your calling and living your best life. So, what exactly is stopping you?
Fear is one of the main culprits holding most people back in their quest of finding their passion. Maybe you are afraid of being judged by others or scared to step outside your comfort zone. What if you try out new things and fail? What next? To find your passion, you need to conquer your fears. Overcoming your fears takes you a step ahead towards a life-changing discovery.
How well do you understand yourself? Do you know what you really love doing? Lack of self-awareness strips you of one of the most critical elements needed to embark on the journey to pursuing your passion.
For you to find your passion, you need to look within and evaluate yourself. You have to take note of what you enjoy doing, what irritates you, and what you are good at doing. Without self-awareness, it becomes tough to decide the direction you want your life to take. You need to be honest about whether or not you possess the talents to embark on a specific career direction, and you need to be honest with yourself about whether or not you are genuinely blissful in your current circumstances. This kind of introspection can be difficult, but it is part of the journey to discovering how to live a life you’ll love.
Some people have a desire to live passionate and meaningful lives but are stuck in a rut because they don’t know where to begin. Not knowing where to start leads to procrastination and eventually regrets that come with an unfulfilled life. Begin by engaging in whatever makes you happy. You don’t need to excel right away; what is essential is that you are trying.
Discovering your calling does not happen in one day; it is a process as discussed in my book, It’s Time to Start Living with Passion! Identifying what could be your stumbling blocks gives you the insight into what to work on to achieve your goal. It may be tough, but you will be happy you made this first step.
